Summer Arts Festival
The Summer Arts Festival (a joint effort by Virginia Tech and the Town of Blacksburg) was established in 1991. This Festival is held each summer beginning in late May and ending in late August. Each year's events provide New River Valley residents, Tech Faculty/staff/students, conference attendees, and tourists with an attractive array of arts and cultural attractions. These include: two live theatre productions; three gallery exhibitions at the Perspective Gallery and the Armory Art Gallery; nine outdoor musical concerts on Henderson Lawn, an Independence Day Celebration sponsored by the Town of Blacksburg; and a Street Festival sponsored by the Downtown Merchants Association.
The devoted and consistent attendance at all the events offered by the Summer Arts Festival more than demonstrates the public's desire for the kind of events that the SAF provides for citizens of the Greater Blacksburg/Virginia Tech community in the summer.
It is my hope, with the continued support and funding of Virginia Tech and the Town of Blacksburg, with the devoted attendance by our community, and with the wide variety of tremendous talent in and around the New River Valley, that the Summer Arts Festival will continue to grow strong and flourish and become a welcome tradition for many years to come.

March 24th, 2008The Summer Arts Festival 2008 is rapidly approaching. Updates will be made daily, so please check in on us as often as possible!
{PLEASE NOTE THAT THE OUTDOOR CONCERTS WILL BE ON THE SHULTZ DINING HALL LAWN because of the construction on Henderson Lawn.}
Along with our outdoor concerts, theatre events, art exhibits, and special events, we are proud to announce that The Lyric Theatre has joined the Summer Arts Festival and will be presenting 3 classic movies this summer (one movie per month being shown at 2 pm on one Saturday and one Wednesday each month). These movies, as with all events of the Summer Arts Festival, are free!
So please join Virginia Tech and the Town of Blacksburg for a wonderful array of things to do this Summer!
